The St. Thomas Men's Basketball League has announced its award winners for the 2024-2025 season.
Ben Murray MVP Trophy & Playoff MVP: Ryan Pflanzer
With a modern era league record 32.8 ppg Ryan Pflanzer led Cole-Munro Foods to a share of the regular season title.
Playing in all 20 games, Pflanzer got himself in great shape coming into the year and he shot a higer percentage from the field than in his previous seasons. He made 6.5 3-PT FG per game, and 5.3 2-PT FG per game while shooting 65% from the line.
-
In the post-season, Pflanzer was unguardable including a 42-point performace in the championship game as the Trout won the title.
He averaged a whopping 34.8 ppg in the playoffs.
Top Defender: Jimmy Hendricksen
As the centre piece of a good defensive team, Jimmy Hendricksen was a dominant force in the paint. He blocked shots, altered shots and grabbed double-digit boards every game.
Ambrose Plumbing allowed the fewest points in the league and Hendricksen is a main reason why.
Rookie of the Year: Connor Hodgins-Depoint
While his work schedule only allowed him to play 65% of the games, it was enough to qualify Connor Hodgins-Depont for the Rookie of the Year award.
The Home Hardware guard was as explosive as any player in the league and averaged 25.9 ppg in his first year.
George Shaw Most Improved Player: Adam Millyard
Adam Millyard is the first two-time winner of the George Shaw Most Improved Player award.
After first winning in 2019-2020, Millyard had a huge jump in play from 2023-2024. The Talbot Trail Physiotherapy guard is a pest on defence, but his jump from 5.1 ppg to 14.0 ppg earned him the nod.
Mike Parsons Most Dedicated Player: Matt Agbetiafa
Ambrose Plumbing forward Matt Agbetiafa is the Mike Parsons award winner. While scorekeeping every night, Matt was also willing to jump in and play a number of games for teams that were short. Without him, many teams would have not had five guys to play.
It was a matchup of perimeter stars vs the league's biggest centre in the 2025 St. Thomas Men's Basketball League Final.
Cole Munro Foods - undefeated in the playoffs- with League MVP Ryan Pflanzer, taking on Ambrose Plumbing and defensive player of the year Jimmy Hendricksen.
A slow start to this one with missed field goals, and blocked shots by Hendricksen, it took about about four minutes before Steve Barton scored the first field goal.
However after that 4-0 lead, it was all Cole-Munro.
Ryan Pflanzer got on fire from deep, knocking down three triples in the opening quarter, add in a bucket and three free throws and he had 14 points in the first ten minutes.
Andrew Cole added six of his own and it was a 22-9 after just ten minutes.
-
Early on, it was mistakes by the Plumbers, turning the ball over multiple times, and those lead to easy buckets for the Trout.
In the second quarter, Pflanzer stayed hot adding in another eight to give him 22 in the first half.
Barton tried to keep his team in it with a pair of triples, but Cole-Munro jumped out to a 39-22 lead at the half.
-
Things didn’t get much better for the Plumbers in the third, as Pflanzer stayed hot. He poured in another 13 points in the third quarter, pushing his total to 35 after 30 minutes.
At one point he had 31 points to the Plumbers 30.
Ambrose did have a much better third quarter, but trailed by 20 going into the fourth.
-
Planzer would score seven more in the final frame to finish with 42 points overall, with Cole adding 14 and Adrian Carstolevean 9 for the winners who cruised to a 71-48 win.
Barton had 13 and James Jarvis 11 for the Plumbers in a losing cause.
Cole-Munro Foods win its second title in the past four years, and Pflanzer was named playoff MVP after averaging 34.8 ppg over five games in the postseason
Harrison Cole, Karsten Groen, Ryan Pflanzer, Drake Bernardi, Adrian Carstolovean, Andrew Cole. (Absent Alex Ryan, Geoff Cole, Justin Vanderzanden)
